Handover of the EU Council Presidency from Slovenia to France
On 17 December 2021, Slovenia officially handed over the Presidency of the Council of the EU in the field of statistics to France. The handover meeting was attended by representatives of the current Trio Presidency (Germany, Portugal and Slovenia), the incoming Trio Presidency (France, Czechia and Sweden), and Eurostat. Due to the epidemiological situation, the handover meeting took place in the form of a videoconference.
Slovenia presented the final report of its Presidency. The Trio Presidency partners Germany-Portugal-Slovenia reflected on the results achieved. The current Chair of the Council Working Party on Statistics, Mr. Tomaž Smrekar, handed over the EU Council Presidency in the field of statistics to the incoming French Chair, Mr. Jean-Luc Tavernier of the Council Working Party on Statistics.
France congratulated the Slovenian Presidency on their achievements and presented the work programme and the priorities of the incoming Trio Presidency France-Czechia-Sweden. The main themes of the French programme are set out in those of the Trio Presidency. In this regard, the French Presidency will aim that the revision of the legislative framework takes into account the specific needs of official statistics, especially concerning access to private data. The French presidency will also actively support the revisions of regulations required for the monitoring of the Green Deal and the Common Agricultural Policy and for meeting new user needs.
